We are all facing many challenges at this time. Some of us are dealing with the uncertainty of our world, some are feeling scared for their and their families health and well-being, some are noticing that their shadow self has been a constant presence. Bringing to the forefront the not-so-pretty aspects of ourselves. This shadow self is as much of a part of us as the loving, kind, patient, trusting self. Just imagine the yin/yang symbol. This symbol represents the light and the dark within all of us. It shows us that we could not recognize the light without the dark.
So how do we handle the parts of us that are not so "pretty"? I'm a mom of two beautiful girls. And I've worked with children for over 20 years. When a child is feeling scared, unsafe, or insecure they act out in many forms. This is how I imagine the shadow self, as a young child that is afraid. Afraid of the unknown, afraid of change, afraid that their needs won't be met, afraid that they won't be accepted or liked. When we understand the root cause of the misbehaving child's actions, we can then respond appropriately with kindness and reassurance.
What does this have to do with the planetary alignment of Lion's Gate? Lion's Gate happens every year between July 26th-August 12th and is marked by an alignment between the Earth and the star Sirius. The Mayans, as well as the Egyptians, celebrated this time as a heightened energetic part of our cycle. They utilized this time to connect to higher intelligence and a creative force. But even if you don't believe in the energy of the planetary system and what it's up to, you can still benefit from taking the time to acknowledge all parts of yourself. To take the time to reassure and embrace the aspects of yourself that are scared and uncertain. Once we calm our shadow self we make room for our lighter self to be more expressive, freer to manifest our dreams without self limiting beliefs, responding to our experiences with a broader perspective.
This is inner work that we must all choose to do but, you don't have to do it alone. We have built a beautiful loving community that comes together to support one another. If you'd like to join us, we will be gathering for a Lion's Gate group meditation on August 8th @ 8 am. via zoom. You can sign up through the online classes page.
